| NECYSC 2006 = SUCCESS what an amazing week! group 7 + banana buddies = the best. It was nice to see all my campers and former-campers, too. Everyone's growing up so fast. =O If you're wondering if I actually dp wear eyeliner, well... just keep on wondering... I seriously live for this every summer... after camp I always ask myself how it's even possible for it to get this much better with each passing year. Maybe my question was never meant to be answered because every year camp just keeps on kicking more and more butt. Thank you to all the staff (CITs, Counselors, Committee - everyone did a great job) and thank you to Jordan, Joyce, Phil, Jason. Hope to see everyone on Saturday.
Also, the Blue Man Group, a.k.a. BM^2G, would like to thank everyone for their continued support for the past 5 years. It's been a mischievously fun half a decade and we will always remember the wild, goofy, and crazy times. Michael Li, Michael Liao, and Brian Hsieh have moved on to bigger and better things such as test-shaving Mach 7 razors, traveling the world in a beat up car with a broken headlight and no AC, and modeling cosmetic products. BM^2G 4 LIFE!
My post-NECYSC life: last week of work. I can't wait until this Friday to finally be FREE. Saturday reunion, Sunday six flags, then one week of absolutely nothing. I'm going to take full advantage of next week to sleep in, play video games, eat all the time, nap all the time, and totally chill the heck out. Then it's NYC on August 28th --> back to school! Seeing my college friends again! Excited max.
Enjoy the rest of your summers, -Brian

| >_> After dozing off at work this morning, I had sleep paralysis for the fourth time in my life, and the third time this month. I decided to find out what was going on. Sleep paralysis is "a condition characterized by temporary paralysis of the body shortly after waking up. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is awakened from an REM state into essentially a normal fully awake
state, but the bodily paralysis is still occurring. This causes the
person to be fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, this state
is usually accompanied by hallucinations." (Wikipedia). The very first time was last year, when I woke up from an accidental nap, lying on my back in bed. I couldn't move a single muscle or even talk, no matter how hard I tried for what seemed like a full minute. My first though was "ZOMG am I going to die???" I could see everything around me perfectly... I could see my room, see myself lying there, albeit a little hazy... but I was frozen. Eventually I shook myself out of it and the it felt like I was waking up all over again. The three times that this happened to me this summer I panicked, which caused me to start having auditory hallucinations of people humming and whispering into my ear, and I tried to tell them to hang on, to wait for me to regain control of my body, but I couldn't speak. Scary shit. So I'm going to start keeping a dream journal. A few more things: - Your body goes into paralysis every time you sleep to prevent you from physically acting on your dreams and hurting yourself in real life. (For example, attacking bad guys or fleeing monsters in your dreams, which could put you in dangerous situations in the waking world.) - Waking up while your body is still in paralysis is a sign of awareness during dreams. This can lead to "lucid dreaming," which is being able to control your dreams, and play god in your dream world. One of the popular things to do is to fly. (Wikipedia). - Ever had a lucid dream? From personal experience, they kick butt. In my dream, I just pwn all n00bs that come in my path, and although I haven't tried this before, I hear from my sister that she can conjure things out of thin air. Too bad I've only had maybe two lucid dreams in my whole life. - Keeping a dream journal improves your chances of lucid dreaming, because it trains your mind to be aware during your dreams. The moment you realize that you're in a dream, you become lucid and you can start pwning. A popular method is to make a habit of looking at your hands all the time in the waking world, and this habit will carry over to your dreams. When you do it while dreaming, you will become aware that you are dreaming. - Most of the time, when you become lucid in your dreams, you will become so excited that the adrenaline rush brings you back into the waking world.:( - Many people have achieved a state where they can induce lucid dreaming at will. *jealous* - Meditation strengthens your ability to experience lucid dreams. - Children seem to have lucid dreams more easily than adults do, because adults tend to lose the ability to sleep as they get older. So do it while you still can!
